Floatboat Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 23, 2026
At FLOATBOAT, we prioritize your privacy. We understand that as an “Work Environment” and “Memory Agent,” we handle your most sensitive work data. This policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will post the updated Privacy Policy and update the “Last Updated” date above.
Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy means you acknowledge the updated Policy, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
1. Who We Are & Legal Bases
1.1 Who We Are
AOE Tech Labs Limited and/or its Affiliates (to the extent permitted by applicable law) are the “data controller” for personal data processed under this Privacy Policy, except where we act as a processor on behalf of an organization (for example, enterprise accounts), in which case the organization is the controller.
“Affiliate” means any person or entity in the applicable jurisdiction that directly or indirectly controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with AOE Tech Labs Limited, where “control” means the power to direct management or policies (e.g., by ownership of voting securities).
1.2 Legal Bases
We process personal data under the following legal bases, as applicable:
- (a) performance of a contract (to provide the Services)
- (b) our legitimate interests (to secure, maintain, and improve the Services, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms)
- (c) compliance with legal obligations
- (d) consent (where required, such as certain analytics or marketing communications)
1.3 BYOK / Third-Party AI Services
Where you use Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) or third-party AI services, you may act as an independent controller with respect to data transmitted to those providers. You are responsible for:
- ensuring you have the rights and lawful basis to transmit such data to such providers
- your relationship with such providers (including any required notices, consents, and agreements)
Such third-party provider, if any, processes that data under its own terms and privacy policy, and we are not responsible for such provider’s independent processing.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 User Content for Context
When you use FLOATBOAT, we process the files, codebases, and text you explicitly select or that fall within the “Context” you define (e.g., open tabs, current project folder).
2.2 Memory Data
Information you explicitly ask FLOATBOAT to “remember” is stored in your private Memory layer.
2.3 Telemetry
We collect minimal, anonymized usage data (e.g., feature usage counts, crash reports) to improve system stability.
You can opt-out of this in Settings.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use personal data only to the extent necessary to provide and operate the Services, in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws, for the following purposes:
3.1 Providing the Service
We use your data to generate AI responses, execute commands, and retrieve relevant context for your queries.
3.2 AI Inference
Your queries and relevant context chunks are transmitted to our AI model providers (e.g., via secure API) for processing. Such AI model providers may retain and use the data you submit, including potentially for the purpose of training and improving their own AI models.
We do not control the specific data handling practices of these third parties once your data is transmitted to them for processing. To understand how your data may be used by such AI model providers, we strongly recommend you review their privacy policies, which can be found via the links below:
- Google Processor Terms

3.3 Local First
Wherever possible, FLOATBOAT processes data locally on your machine (e.g., indexing file names, local search) to minimize data egress.
3.4 Billing-Related Processing
We process limited usage and operational data (such as token counts, request volume, or execution metadata) for billing, quota enforcement, fraud prevention, and service integrity purposes.
4. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by applicable law, including for security, accounting, dispute resolution, or legal compliance purposes.
- Transient Context: Data used for immediate context (e.g., reading a file to answer a question) is discarded by our processors after the request is completed.
- Persistent Memory: Data in your “Memory” is retained until you delete it. You have full control to view, edit, and delete memory entries.
5. Data Security
We employ industry-standard encryption for data at rest (cloud sync) and in transit (TLS/SSL). Sensitive keys (e.g., for third-party API integrations) are stored in your operating system’s secure keychain where available.
Please note that no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can not guarantee absolute security.
6. Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following categories of third-party service providers to operate and improve the Service:
- AI Model Providers: Strictly for the purpose of generating responses and inference (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
- Cloud Infrastructure: For hosting services and syncing your Memory across devices (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Analytics & Performance SDKs: To monitor system stability, crash reporting, and product analytics (e.g., Sentry, PostHog). These tools collect only anonymized or aggregated usage data.
- Payment Processors: To securely process your subscriptions and purchases (e.g., Stripe). We do not store your sensitive payment information.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data stored in FLOATBOAT’s Memory.
For the current version of the Service, please email your request to contact@floatboat.ai. We will verify your identity and process your request within 30 days, in accordance with applicable laws.
